Gerald Trottman

Composer/Arranger/Vocalist

 

Gerald is not only a dynamic modern  vocalist, he is a gifted and talented composer/arranger as well. Gerald has the unique craft and ability to compose, arrange and perform his own music for a variety of ensembles, which is a rarity for  vocalist.

           

A native from St. Louis , MO. , Gerald  has studied music at Berklee College of Music in Boston , The New School Jazz Program in New York City , and received his Bachelor of Music in Composition from the Univ. of Missouri in Kansas City .  Gerald studied jazz vocals and improvisation in New York City with Ann Ross Of Lambert, Hendricks & Ross and has studied arranging & composition with Bob Brookmeyer, Cecil Bridgewater, Claire Fischer, Gil Goldstien, Norman Simmons, Reggie Workman and Junior Mance.  Gerald has  performed and recorded with a variety of artist including Pete Christalieb, Greg Tardy, Kevin Mahogany, and Peter Eldridge of New York Voices.  Gerald has also been the composer/arranger and musical director for several theatrical shows in New York City .  

Gerald has performed and taught vocal workshops and music composition to students from all over Europe with The International Summer Jazz Academy in Krakow , Poland .  His other credits include vocalist & composer/arranger for the Metropolitan Gospel Big Band/New York City; musical director and composer for the off-Broadway  Gospel Musical “Sweet Daddy  and Amazing Grace”; arranging two pieces for B.J. Crosby in the musical “Whispers of Angels” which ran at the Brooklyn Academy of Music; composing the theme music for the Ritmo International Latin Music Awards/Los Angeles; vocal arrangements and vocals for “Pride & Joy”-Kevin Mahogany/Telarc Records; Music Cues for the independent film "Single & dealing with it"/LA,  composer and musical director for “The Heart Of Biddy Mason”-New York City & Los Angeles.

Gerald is currently performing, teaching voice, music theory, music composition, songwriting & arranging workshops to youth & young adults to broaden their awareness of music and themselves.

 His motto is: “Life.  When it’s roots are firmly planted, it’s growth is unlimited.”
